Fresh Ginger (Sheng Jiang Pi)

Zingerberis officinals

Sheng Jiang Pi

Again here is an herb to use any chance you get. Fresh ginger is especially good as a broth, or tea, or soup, when you have a cold or the flu. Ginger tea is tasty and soothing. It works wonders at the very first sign, especially if you include green onions with their long root stems.

Ginger has many functions. This herb disperses cold, stops vomiting and nausea, stops cough and reduces the toxicity of other herbs. It also protects your Qi especially from too much sweating and has no improvement in their condition.

It is better to use ginger when you have chills and fever rather than just a high fever. It is a hot herb and a high fever requires cold property herbs. Fresh ginger is also useful for treating dysentery, high blood pressure and even edema. If you have edema the peel of the fresh ginger is the best part to use. Use caution when cooking with wild ginger or dried ginger as they both have very warm properties. People who have a cold nature, rather than a hot nature, will do better adding ginger to their food.
